Monté

Font Design

Monté is a custom typeface project that explores the emotional subtleties of geometry, balance, and personal expression through letterforms. Designed to evoke a sense of calm and clarity, Monté features a narrower structure and softened terminals that offer a quiet yet structured tone. I created the full lowercase set and crafted its visual rhythm, focusing on refined proportions and softened movement.

Anchored by a quote about calmness in language, and paired with an excerpt from Cortázar’s Rayuela, the layout emphasizes Monté’s ability to convey space, softness, and clarity. Defined by a softened tone and a narrower structure, its form carries a sense of lightness, quiet, and intimacy—like a breath drawn between lines of a grid. The accent on the “é” adds a subtle lift, a pause that feels intentional, delicate, and human.

Through this project, I learned how type design operates at the intersection of structure and feeling. From Software skills and spacing refinement, to the emotional calibration of rhythm, form, and tone, this project deepened both my precision and intuition as a designer. It also taught me to treat typography not just as a visual system, but as a quiet voice within a larger narrative.
